IPL - Intense Pulsed Light |
|
This technology is on the forefront for treating the skin imperfections. IPL devices use flash lamps that emit full spectrum light taking advantage of the selective photothermolysis principle. They are used for: - Photo-epilation: the energy of light is absorbed selectively by the hair follicle the area that causes hair growth; - photo-rejuvenation: stimulating collagen production and rejuvenating skin from deep inside. It’s mainly effective with dyschromy, wrinkles, dilated pores. In order to have a safe, effective epilation the chromophore, the light pulse target, must be hit with the right amount of energy and for the right duration. The pulse parameters depend on people’s features: phototype, hair colour and dimensions. The pulse should last less than the hair Thermal Relaxation Time (usually around 50 ms), while the wavelength, in order to be mainly absorbed by melanin, should be between 590 and 1200 nm. Different values can be useless, or even dangerous. Water cooling system IPL devices manufactured by Cesare Quaranta have a water cooling system. When designing a cooling system, you should consider materials thermal conductivity and heat capacity. A cooling material should have a high thermal conductivity and a high heat capacity. IPL devices you can buy nowadays can be cooled with air systems or water systems: water is much better at cooling than air since both its thermal conductivity and capacity are bigger than those of air.
